Market Insights – Legal Support

2020 has been an interesting year to say the least. When the coronavirus pandemic hit, we saw thousands of people across the country lose their jobs in various industries and legal was no exception to this. During these unprecedented times whereby there are millions of people fighting the deadly virus, facing financial hardship, political upheaval and various other threats, it can be difficult to look beyond the current situation.
Yes, we have seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of legal support positions available and whilst the legal industry is not immune to a recession, it does have a tendency to be more counter-cyclical then other industries and this is especially true for certain practice areas that are in high demand during a pandemic such as the one we are experiencing now. Whilst the market for legal support staff is still relatively slow, we are predicting things will pick back in the lead up to the Christmas/New Year. With many offices preparing for a new ‘covid-normal’ whereby we will see a hybrid return to offices/work from home, we predict that many legal firms will be preparing by hiring new legal support staff.
So, what can you do for now? Here at Amicus we are still meeting with candidates daily and we encourage you to register your interest with us via our website. Reason being so that when roles do come up (which they will!) we will already have your details and have met with you so all it takes is a quick phone call to you to see whether you would like to be put forward for a position (provided it is suited to your background). Similarly, we encourage our existing candidates to continue to provide us with any updates on your current job search/situation so that we can do the same for you when roles pop up.
In the meantime, hang in there and stay positive because things will get better!
